Christian Karembeu

Karembeu is a former French football super star who started his career off playing for Nantes in 1990. He spent five seasons at the club prior a move to Sampdoria in 1995. After two seasons playing for the Italian club he moved on to play for Spanish giants Real Madrid. After three years at the Spanish club, he moved to England to play for Middlesbrough, becoming an instant favourite with the Boro supporters. After one year playing for Boro, he moved on to play for Olympiakos, Servette and then Bastia.

 

Gareth Southgate

Without doubt, Southgate was one of the finest defenders the country produced during the 1990’s and he was a true leader on the football pitch. He started his career off playing for Crystal Palace in 1990. He became the youngest captain in the football league and led the team to the division one title in 1994. After six years playing for Palace, Southgate moved on to play for Aston Villa in 1995 and converted in to a centre back role at the club. He helped Villa win the league cup in 1996 and was a great captain for the Midlands club.
Steve McClaren signed Southgate, partnering him at the back with his former team mate, Ugo Ehiogu. In his debut season at the club, Southgate won the ‘player of the year’ award and was installed as club captain during the 2002-03 season and helped Boro win the Carling Cup in 2004. In total he as made more than 230 appearances for Middlesbrough and is currently their manager, however he is still registered as a player.

Mark Schwarzer

Schwarzer spent many years playing football in the German league before moving to Middlesbrough in 1997. Schwarzer made his debut for Boro in a semi final clash against Stockport County in 1997 and played in the league cup final of 1997, as Boro suffered a defeat against Leicester City. Schwarzer has now been first choice goal keeper at Middlesbrough for nine years now and has made over 300 appearances in goal. His finest moment was helping Boro win the 2004 league cup final, enjoying victory over Bolton in the final. He has been consistent in goal for the club through out his career.

Ugo Ehiogu

Ehiogu started his career off in 1990 playing for West Bromwich Albion before moving to midlands club, Aston Villa in 1991. He went on to spend nine years playing for the club before making a move to Middlesbrough, at a club record fee of £8 million. After suffering from injury during his first season at the club, Ehiogu soon established him self in the starting line up and he got recalled to the England side in 2001, scoring in a 3-0 win over Spain. He enjoyed winning the league cup with club in 2004 and has now played for the club on more that 150 occasions to date.
