Craig Johnstone

Although never making a real impact at Middlesbrough, Craig Johnston made his first team debut for the club in 1978 under the guidance of their manager, Jack Charlton. His first match was a clash against Everton in 1978, and the young prodigy scored on his debut. His fantastic play at the club earned him a move to Liverpool in 1981, at the age of only 20 years. He signed for a staggering £570,000 and settled in quickly at the club, winning the league championship in 1982. He was very much part of the Liverpool ‘treble winning’ team of 1984. He scored in the 1986 FA Cup final against local rivals Everton, in a 3-1 victory. In 1988 he got called up to the England national football team, however he did not make an appearance.

Graeme Souness

Souness started his career off playing for Spurs before making a move to Middlesbrough, a club he really established himself at. He was outstanding in the Boro midfield and had a reputation of being one of the hardest midfield players in the country. During his time playing for Middlesbrough, he earned a call up to the Scottish national football team. His great play at Boro earned him a move to play for Liverpool, being signed for a staggering £350,000 in January 1978. He was outstanding for the Reds during his long spell at the club, most notably winning the league title in 1980 and the European Cup. His finest season was the 1983-84 campaign, as he skippered Liverpool to winning the league title, the league cup and the European Cup. He later on played for Rangers of Scotland.
