George Hardwick

In the club history of Middlesbrough FC, Hardwick is regarded by many as the clubs greatest ever defender. He was an inspirational England captain after the World War 2 and he also captained the Great Britain football team. He spent many of his years playing for the club as a great defender before being forced to finish his playing career due to injury. Hardwick later on played for Oldham Athletic, also acting as manager at the time. He has also managed the Holland international football team and PSV Eindhoven. He finished his career off managing Sunderland.

 

Wilf Mannion

Mannion was one of Middlesbrough’s greatest ever forward midfield players. He enjoyed a long career at the club that spanned between 1936 and 1954, a stunning 18 years. In total, Mannion made 368 appearances for the club and netted in 110 goals. His tremendous play also earned him 26 England caps, most notably scoring a hat trick on his debut. After retiring in 1954, he came out of retirement to play for Hull City for a short spell.
